Drug Uses
Prilosec is used for treatment of various acid related stomach and esophagus problems (for example, GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger Ellison Syndrome). If you suffer from heartburn (and have tried to treating it and changed your diet) Prilosec may be suitable for you. Certain antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, clarithromycin) may be prescribed together with Prevacid when treating certain ulcers.

How Taken
Prilosec comes as a capsule or tablet. The general dosage is 20mg tablet or capsule, taken once a day (every 24 hours) during 14 days before a meal. Do not take Prilosec for more than 14 days or repeat a 14 day course more often than every 4 months. For best effect swallow the capsule or tablet, do not crush, break, or chew it.

Warnings/Precautions
Notify you doctor if you have kidney, liver or heart disease or other stomach problems (e.g., tumors). Tell him if you are allergic to anything. Do not use Prilosec if you are pregnant or likely to become pregnant, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. It is unknown whether this medication passes into breast milk, therefore do not take Prilosec if you are breastfeeding.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are– diarrhea, constipation, stomachache, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness the first few days as your body adjusts to it. You also may experience back or joint pain, nervousness, sleep disturbances, cough, chest pain, unusual thirst, change in amount of urine or vision changes, loss of hair, ringing in the ears, swelling of the stomach or fatigue. If you experience these or any other side effects, contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Storage
Store this medication at room temperature 15–30°C (59–86°F). Keep away from children and excess heat, light and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Prilosec overdose are– confusion, unusual sweating, blurred vision, unusually fast heartbeat, seizures.

More Information
Prilosec is not suitable for you if you have only occasional heartburn, have one episode of heartburn a week or less, want immediate relief of heartburn. Before taking Prilosec notify your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you are taking. Do not start or stop any medicine without your doctor`s or pharmacist`s approval.
